Carol Foord
Position: Teacher/Naturalist
E-Mail Address : [email protected]

Carol credits her children --- and Tin Mountain --- for inspiring her interest in the natural world. Together they discovered a whole world of frogs, salamanders, butterflies, and plants in their rural backyard. Later, when they enrolled in Freedom Elementary School, the 34-week Tin Mountain program gave Carol a chance to volunteer on a weekly basis in her children's classrooms, providing both Carol and her children a foundation for discovery and learning.

With a particular interest in stonewalls and cellar holes, Carol decided to enroll in the environmental studies program at Antioch New England Graduate School. Meanwhile, she served as a trustee for Tin Mountain and a docent for the Society for the Preservation of New Hampshire Forests. She is currently president of the Freedom Historical Society and has written two books on regional history.

Now a teacher/naturalist with Tin Mountain, Carol brings her love of New Hampshire's history to her third and fourth grade students. Her curriculum includes understanding how our mountains formed, how the glaciers shaped our local landscape, and studies of the Native Americans who inhabited New Hampshire for over 10,000 years. Her field trips usually include a visit to a cellar hole to understand the settling of New Hampshire by Europeans.
