Experience the Outdoors with a Tin Mountain Guided Trip

2023-03-15 12:04:27.0
Tin Mountain Guided Trips:

Tin Mountain Conservation Center can provide individuals or groups with guided experiences in the outdoors with one of our naturalists. We are familiar with many great hikes and birding spots in the Mount Washington Valley and western Maine, and can work with you to meet your group's needs. If you're interested in seeing a certain species of bird or wildflower, experiencing a certain type of terrain, or simply looking for an informative and enjoyable walk in the woods, Tin Mountain is your natural learning destination. Whether it's a trip to the Brownfield Bog where you'll find an amazing diversity of flycatchers, warblers, vireos, ducks and wading birds, an exploration of the unique plants growing in the enriched soil of the Humphrey's Ledge cove forest, or a hike in the White Mountains to seek out bird and plant species distinctive to the boreal and alpine zones, Tin Mountain has the knowledge and experience to craft the natural history experience you're looking for.

Guided Trips might include:

- Bird walks & trips (Boreal specialties, wetland habitats, spring migrants, etc.)
- Alpine ecology (Flora, fauna, and glacial geology)
- Spring wildflowers (Ephemerals, endemics, and rarities)
- Glacial geology (Ancient waterfalls, glacial erratics, cirques, and eskers)
- Reading the forest (Stump sprouts, rock walls, moose browse, and bear claws)
- Natural history (A little of everything!)

Fees for Guided Trips:

Half-day trips (sunrise till noon) for 1-2 participants start at $100
Plus $25 for each additional participant

All-day trips (sunrise till 6PM) for 1-2 participants start at $185
Plus $50 for each additional participant

A reasonable extra charge to cover the transportation and/or lodging expenses for our naturalist may also apply on some trips. This is usually the case only when the trip takes us to remote locations.

Stan Bodkins, Tin Mountain Mural on Display at TMCC Nature Learning Center

2023-07-21 12:13:35.0
Want to promote hands-on environmental education by adopting a two dimensional native wildlife mammal, bird or plant? Stan Bodkins, local artist and former trustee of Tin Mountain, had a wonderful idea to help raise funds for the Tin Mountain Conservation Center new Learning Center. On display in the center's lobby is Stan's original, realistic, 4 x 8 acrylic painting depicting native wildlife in a forest setting. White birch logs uniquely frame the painting embracing its natural setting. Animals, trees, flowers and leaves can be purchased and personalized as you wish. Stan will hand paint your requested name or title beside the purchased image making it an integral part of the original painting. What a wonderful way to support local environmental programming, receive business exposure and give a loving keepsake. Leaves can be personalized for as little as twenty-five dollars, and flowers fifty dollars. There are many birds and mammals still to adopt including a Red Wing Blackbird, Wood Duck and Canada Goose and for the mammal lovers there is a beaver, rabbit, skunk, raccoon and fawn among others. Prices for birds and mammals are $150, $200, $250 and $300 depending on the animal. There is even a family tree for $300-what a great way to immortalize the family lineage. You may want to make your request soon as 50 percent of the mural figures are spoken for. The mural will be permanently installed and exhibited in a very prominent viewing area in the lobby of the Tin Mountain Learning Center.

Tin Mountain Conservation Center was founded over 26 years ago by Barbara Rockwell Henry to promote an appreciation of the environment in children, adults and families through hands-on programs in schools, at summer camps and in the community. At its inception Tin Mountain presented programs in two elementary schools and hosted three community nature programs. Since then, annual offerings have grown to include 16 schools in the greater Mount Washington Valley, over 60 Community Nature Programs, 21 sessions of summer nature camp, dozens of tailored outreach programs, teacher workshops, internship programs, numerous publications, natural-science teaching kits, and the best natural history reference libraries in the area. Over the years, Tin Mountain has held fast to its founding mission.

Tin Mountain Conservation Center administrative staff and naturalists have moved to the new Nature Learning Center. The center will be a gathering place for people and programs that support natural science education and a higher level of community awareness and cooperation. Located in Albany, New Hampshire on 98 acres of extraordinary natural habitat, in one of the areas most unique natural landscapes and among numerous rare plants and glacial occurrences, the site will offer terrific opportunities to explore and study the natural environment.

The TMCC Nature Learning Center is a model for the future in its use of local resources and design for energy efficiency. Construction of the center capitalizes on the beauty and utility of proven craftsmanship as well as incorporating cutting edge energy technologies to heat and light the building. Roof-mounted solar thermal energy panels coupled with radiant floors and photovoltaic units are excellent vehicles for sharing energy conservation applications with contractors and home owners. The post and beam design of the Great Room is truly exceptional. The entire timber frame is being constructed from white pine except for the posts which are from large red oak timbers.

Along with the mural to help raise funds for the New Learning Center there are numerous donor recognition and naming opportunities including the New Learning Center's Main Building, the 98-acre demonstration lands Nature Sanctuary, the Nature Resource Library, the Classroom/Lab, the small conference room, laboratory benches, three different trail naming opportunities, and display cases. Naming opportunities giving levels range from $3,000 to $300,000. Donations are tax-deductible and proceeds will benefit the Capital Campaign Building Fund and New Learning Center Building Maintenance Endowment Fund. Tin Mountain Conservation Center is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization. If you are interested in the New Learning Center's naming opportunities or a mural image please call Mike or Donna at Tin Mountain Conservation Center at 603-447-6991. We will be happy to arrange a personal tour of the facility. For information on Tin Mountain camps, nature programs and upcoming events log on to www.tinmtn.org
