Hawks of the Northeast Thursday, September 11 |
2022-09-03 11:06:05.0
Hawks of the Northeast Thursday, September 11, 2022 Birds of prey have always occupied a special place in man's feelings toward the natural world. Over the centuries raptors have been looked upon as symbols of greatness and at the same time perceived as a threat and persecuted mercilessly as a result. We'll transcend misconcieved notions and look at the birds themselves and their superbly adapted designs in the TMCC Nature Program "Hawks of the Northeast" on Thursday, September 11 at the TMCC Nature Learning Center, 1245 Bald Hill Road, Albany, NH 03818. In this slide presentation, Chris Lewey will discuss raptor natural history with an emphasis on identification, flight, and behavior unique to each species. This is an educational program that both the novice and experienced bird watcher will not want to miss. For more information contact TMCC at 603-447-6991 and for directions visit www.tinmtn.org The Tin Mountain Nature Program Series is sponsored by L.L. Bean and the Evenor Armington Fund. Programs are open to the public. Members are free, and non-members are asked to donate $3/person or $5/family. For a full list of upcoming programs, visit www.tinmtn.org.

| Marnie Cobbs Paintings Are on Display at the TMCC Gallery |
2023-07-15 08:28:12.0
A refreshing sense of spontaneity and lightness greets the viewer as they enter the Tin Mountain Nature Learning Center in Albany New Hampshire. On display at the Tin Mountain Nature Learning Center gallery until the end of July are the vibrant, "plein-aire" gouache paintings by the artist Marnie Cobbs. Marnie's works are expressive of her observations of nature, rhythmic in color and pattern, with a freedom of form and place. On display are scenes of Foss Mountain where Marnie likes to spend her time "soaking in ledges and the colors of the blueberry fields in different seasons". Other brushstrokes capture the ocean light and landscape of Deer Isle and Jonesport where the artist spent time kayak-painting. In the artist words, One of my favorite things about painting is slowing down enough to see or hear whatever is there. Marnie Cobbs is also a poet and bookbinder, and lives with her husband and two sons in Eaton, New Hampshire. She is trained as a rare book conservator, and she has been mending books and making new ones for many years. She also runs The Uphill House, making cards and books of her poems and paintings. A book of Marnies poems is also on display at the exhibit. Tin Mountain Conservation Center is open Monday through Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM. Proceeds of the sale of the paintings will benefit TMCC, a non-profit environmental organization serving the greater Mount Washington Valley for over thirty years. When you come to the Nature Learning Center you will have the opportunity to slow down and view the artwork, take the time to enjoy reading Marnies poems in the handcrafted TMCC basswood library, after you are welcome to stroll along the diverse and calming TMCC 140 acres, and sit on the porch rockers while listening to the resident thrush. For more information call TMCC at 603-447-6991; for a full listing of nature programs log on to www.tinmtn.org.
